Hacks to the Greenstyle Creations Cambria Top

This is the most hackable of patterns (here). Really lends itself to creativity (as well as being great as written). This is the boxy body, longer length, hemmed, 3/4 bishop sleeves with the contoured cuff, and a hack: the Laurel cowl.
The Laurel is a dress, but the cowl add-on is free (you do need to have an account). The cowl will require approximately 1/2yd in addition to the pattern. I cut the bodice on the high crew line and selected the cowl for the size of the Laurel that I would use (not in the plus range, which appears to have a wider neck). I then walked the two pattern seam lines to make sure they are the same length. Unlike bands and also binding, cowl necks are generally 1:1 meaning you don't stretch either the body or the neck to put them on.

Some other notes that might help:
  • Cowl necks are put on with the seam on the *outside* so it doesn't show when you are wearing it
  • Cowls are a bit heavy - if you are using delicate or particularly stretchy fabric, you may want to reinforce or strengthen the back seam by a narrow strip of interfacing, twill tape, binding, or clear elastic.
  • This cowl is shaped. You can also just make a big tube. Measure (at the seam line) around the neck and then cut a square of that (+3/4" for 2 x 3/8 seam allowances by 2x the length you want plus seam allowances. )
  • If you want a bigger, more dramatic cowl, grab one from another designer but then you might have to trace the neck opening over.
Here's a video demonstrating what I just discussed.
