See my last post for what I did. I unpicked the waistband since then, cut 2" off, and serged on with a 3/8" seam allowance.
In retrospect, I shouldn't have darts in the overlay. I should have just taken that from the sides. also I cut the overlay exactly as directed, but I think it would have been more dramatic to have the lines parallel to the diagonal edge. I couldn't quite picture it so I was reluctant to try it.
I think this would be better styled with pink or red or some jewel toned color but I don't have a lot of that around. Also with spiky high heels (I may have some in the closet but who knows)
