Comfy Work Pants - Hacking the P4P SOS to make the ubiquitous ponte pants

I was at the mall recently waiting for my daughter who was attending a birthday party and I decided to browse around in the stores. I haven't been to the mall in YEARS. Everywhere I went they had black ponte pants with elastic waistbands. Some had pintuck creases in the front. Pockets varied.  Prices... were amazing. Like whoa.

Here's some Pinspiration.

So I set to making my own. I started with the Patterns for Pirates SOS Pants. I have made SO many of these.  I sized up one so they were slightly less fitted at the hip. I got rid of the yoke by overlapping the seam allowances. Now if I were using paper, I probably would have added a dart. I think I meant to but I didn't and it was ok.

I did the pockets as in the instructions and the fake fly like the instructions. Although, I just did a single pass of topstitching. I wish I had make the fake fly narrower and taller. I think the proportions aren't perfect.

I omitted the back pockets and I followed these instructions to add faux welt pockets. I made a few samples first and they were only getting worse.

I held these up and tried to figure out placement, but I think I would have preferred them maybe 3/4" higher but they're alright. They sort of look like they do on the inspiration.

I folded the front leg in half and edge stitched from crotch height to the hem. Pulled the threads through to the back and knotted.

I did a blind hem instead of double turned so they looked a little neater.

Overall I'm super happy about how these turned out
